Here's the rules: 1. Watch the video above your post. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE WHOLE THING. 2. Comment on the song. Love it? Hate it? Vapid epithets lambasting it? lol big words? 3. Post a link to a song on youtube with the "artist - song title" as the text. This link must be music that is a completely different genre/style than the post above you. 4. ??? 5. Profit! I'll start: [no previous post to comment on] [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjxDRWiyMbU"]YouTube - MIKA - Grace Kelly[/nomedia] edit per meph's request: to artist-song instead of the other way. I like it the way I had originally, but... meh, no big deal.
Heh. That MIKA dude's music is just basically completely out of my range of tastes. I think music is his excuse to act effeminate in front of a camera with his high-pitched vocals for 4 minutes at a time. Here's a link to a guy who writes maybe the stangest music ever. When You're Evil - Voltaire This guy doesn't get to do music videos, I think, so it's just the audio. Have fun with the lyrics.
That song by Voltaire made me think Tim Curry as Dr. Frankefurter had a love child with Michael Buble and that love child was performing a Frank Zappa-esque song!. I love the music in the background, though!! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDYIlaaw_yI"]YouTube - The Tea Party - Sister Awake[/ame]
Loved it. The lyrics went great with the intruments and i dug the whole indian/rock deal going on. Can you edit the top post from song-artist to artist-song? My song: Andrew Jackson Jihad, "People II: The Reckoning"
I'm not digging the way the guy's singing, but it fits with the song. I liked most of the lyrics, and I enjoyed what they did with Simon & Garfunkel at the end. Could have used maybe another acoustic guitar to fill it in a little, but overall a fun song. Beirut- Nantes Hated having to listen to the whole thing. It's pretty much exactly what I expected you to post. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hq2s0AhdFE4"]YouTube - Nantes (from the Flying Club Cup) - BEIRUT[/ame]
Would like to know what they could do in a recording studio, the location messed up the song enough not to enjoy it. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGlr9iNBejA"]YouTube - Doctor Steel's Fibonacci Sequence[/ame]
Hell Yeah. Steampunk FTW! I love how this song has that drum and bass high-speed beatwork. The victorian sort of melody that plays in the background during the quieter moments certainly adds to the creepiness and kinda brings back memories of old WB cartoons. I'm going to need to keep an eye on this thread. I could post something great as a response to any submission for at least the next three years. For my second submission: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SagiYYezgcw"]YouTube - Soul Coughing - I Miss the Girl[/ame] Great stoner music, but not near as overplayed or in some cases boring as Phish or Pink Floyd (not that I don't respect Pink Floyd... I've just heard everything they've done so damn many times that I can't listen anymore).
I liked it enough to listen to a few more of their songs. It seems to be something I could only listen to once in a blue moon though. Mainly because of the ones I listened to, I wanted to stop listening about 2/3rds of the way through. Couldn't give a reason why though. and now for something that I like for when I'm feeling mellow. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otx49Ko3fxw"]YouTube - Sufjan Stevens "John Wayne Gacy Jr" Music Video[/ame] edit: Also, Freaksword... Dr Steel FTW! Back and Forth is my favorite song of his.
Awesome. Takes me back to the Ska days of the middle 90s when I was playing trumpet in high school band. Their trumpet player has awesome tone. Not a technically hard piece to play, but his timbre is spot on. Lyrics are kinda funny, but not really in any way inspiring, which is something I tend to like about a lot of good punk music (see Bad Religion). Now a complete diversion from all the music posted up to this point. Tegan and Sara are a couple of chicks from Canada that have a cult following. They play some excellent acoustic guitar, and I would compare them with Ani Difranco. They are probably more than welcome to show up at Lilith Fair if they haven't already played there before. [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNZhSsDAvHM"]YouTube - Tegan and Sara Hype[/nomedia] The song is not 9 minutes long, apparently the person who uploaded it doesn't know how to use video editing programs, and the last several minutes are just silence.
That actually wasnt half bad. I was expecting a girly song but it was pretty good. Venetian Snares - Gentleman / Live Drums
Why the hell did you listen to the whole thing? I honestly have nothing to submit here because I stick mainly to classic rock and 80s metal (not hair metal, though I do like some of it...sue me) and I refuse to listen to the radio or watch MTV. And for some reason I don't get VH1 which used to be at least slightly better than MTV, as in they actually played music. But that's a whole other rant.
Holy Christ that dude is good. It's good to know that there are drummers out there who could actually physically play the beats for high-speed electronica (such as D&B or some highly technical breaks). I think the most amazing part was his rimshot/snare hit roll at about 3:50. I wanted so bad to airdrum to this, but I couldn't even begin to. Now something for the metal/industrial fans. Type O Negative has been around for quite some time, and I discovered them because of the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack (which was basically a collection of a lot of the techno/industrial talent at the time, including KMFDM, Juno Reactor, Orbital, Sister Machine Gun). For the goth/metal fans. The lead singer has a seriously epic voice. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXTFAoYDmyA"]YouTube - Type O Negative, My Girlfriends Girlfriend[/ame] BTW, the reason I picked this video is because it has the studio version of the song. The live versions are good, but it's almost impossible to make out the words. Plus a little eye candy for those of you who dig goth chicks or whatever.
LuuuUUUUUHHHHved it! Heh. While creepy and demonic, the actual music and singing hook me. Don't know what he's singing about other than there's counting in German (I'm guessing) throughout, but all that kind of fades away as I really found him to be quite hot. LOL I know we're supposed to do a completely different kind of genre, and though the video is also disturbing, I couldn't resist. Sweet song Monie although the video dominates it, reminds me of a retelling of little red riding hood, eaten alive and all right in the end (murdered but it was all a thought) Now for something completly different [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohDEd14_NUo"]YouTube - Counting The Beat With Pennywise The Clown (Full Version!)[/ame]
That was pretty good. Sounds a lot like ICP in the vocals and the style of the music, but they actually have lyrics that are worth listening to. Anyone who has watched the movie Snatch will recognize this tune as the music for the scene where Brad Pitt takes out that huge boxer. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIHBUGvAUMo"]YouTube - Golden Brown, The Stranglers.[/ame]
Kinda of a strange song. Vox reminded me slightly of Radiohead. The harpsicord made gave things an interesting feel. Seems like the song slightly dragged on twards the end.
