If I could weaponize all that hate, there would no longer be a need for military R+D, because nothing could be more powerful.
I have things to say about this, but I am always wary of political/religious talk on forums. I'll keep it short: This is the kind of thing that makes organized religion and certain conservatives look like jerks.
Hal, I agree that forums are usually not the place for religious or political discussion, I had to share this particular bit. I could go over how hypocritical it is, how many things he said wrong, but I think the message speaks for itself. That, and the fact that the video has ~2000 likes and ~98,000 dislikes at time of posting.
Yeah there are more idiots with access to media than the millions of good Christians that don't have such bigoted views. But have no fear boys and girls. The more he talks the worse he looks. And I kinda believe what somebody said before "The only way Obama is getting reelected again is if a Republican runs against him."
My guess is that what he meant to say and what he actually said got crossed when he was opening his mouth. My guess is that he meant to say something like: "In times when we have reached a level of equality in which openly gay/lesbian people may serve in the military, it is a shame that we are failing to protect the freedoms that we originally colonized this land to protect, such as a child's right to pray, even in school." Unfortunately, no one explained this to Perry, and he said it the way he understood it and his campaign manager didn't see it before it went to air. While I don't find it offensive that gays are allowed to serve just as anyone should be allowed to serve, I do find it offensive that children are told that prayer is not allowed in school or that certain words need to be removed from money or our Pledge of Allegiance. It pains me that all of the attention is going towards his retarded jab at gays while the issue of the protection of people's right to pray is being swept under the rug.
Soulmate put nicely what I was thinking. Now, I'm not a religious person in the slightest, but if a child wants to pray in school then that is their business. As long as -every- religion is allowed to pray (or equivalent of prayer), then let it be the school's choice. It's a shame the guy worded it so poorly since this topic can foster good discussion... except for the jab at gays. I'm not sure if that's really what he meant, but for sake of sanity I'm going to continue hoping/believing so.
Religion and politics suck to argue about. I am a conservative and right leaning political problem. I hate it when republicans play the I am holier than thou to get elected.
The whole religion things sounds like my thread about my x-mas decorations and retarded neighbor. I agree that religion and politics shouldn't mix.
